Mommy Makeover

A Mommy Makeover Surgery is a procedure in which there is a rejuvenation of the breast and abdomen, both areas affected by pregnancy physical changes.

All women gain weight during pregnancy. This weight can be notice all over their body but mainly affect their breast and their abdomen. The breasts grow not only because of the weight gain, but also due to the natural evolution necessary for future nursing. Fatty tissue accumulates in the breasts, abdomen, flanks, hips, back, buttocks and thighs. The mommy makeover surgery is the solution to regain your pre-pregnancy better looks.

During pregnancy the skin of the abdomen stretch causing the breakage of the skin collagen and the appearance of the unpleasant looking vergetures, also known as stretch marks. These unpleasant looking marks are kind of red in color and appear about the middle and lower abdomen. A mommy makeover surgery will help you to counteract these unpleasant sights.

Depending on each individual case a mommy makeover surgery procedure may consist of: breast augmentation, breast lift, tummy tuck and or liposuction. Whether only one or all this procedures will be performed will depend on your needs wishes and final decision.

Personal consideration before your Mommy Makeover Surgery

The first step you have to take when considering a Mommy Makeover Surgery is discussing your case with a Cosmetic Surgeon. He will tell you if your expectations are attainable and once you have decided to proceed with the surgery and set a date for your surgery he will given you a list of all the preoperative instructions, these will include:

First, if you use tobacco in any way or form, specially smoking, you have to stop this practice for at least six week before the surgery and two weeks after the surgery. Since smoking can produce serious complication by inhibiting the flow of oxygen through the body and negatively affecting the healing and recovery time.

Stop taking any blood thinning, aspirin, certain anti-inflammatory drugs, vitamins and minerals supplements and some herbal medications that could be responsible for increased bleeding.

Keep hydrated. Hydration is very important before and after surgery for a fast and safe recovery.

Where are going to be the incisions?

Your cosmetic surgeon will decide based on the chosen procedures where the incisions are going to be. Usually a breast lift will require a circular incision around the areola and then straight down to the fold under the breast. For the tummy tuck, there will be a linear incision from hipbone to hipbone that will be hidden below the bikini line.

When can I resume normal activities after Mommy Makeover?

You can go back to your normal activities after two to four weeks of recovery but on this subject you should wait for your cosmetic surgery final decision.

Depending on your type of surgery and the procedure performed, your recovery time will usually vary from 2 to 4 weeks. This period of time can go without almost any unpleasant happening by complying with the following recommendations:

  • Sleeping on pillows on your back and keeping your legs slightly bent at the hips minimizes pain and result in a thinner scar.
  • Avoiding heavy lifting, running or/and jogging for two weeks after your complete recovery.
  • No matter how slightly you notice an increase in swelling, pain, or aspect of the incision area or if you feel any kind of unexplained malaise, call your doctor immediately.
  • If your procedure was breast reduction surgery or breast lift surgery, you will be indicated to wear a special brassier during a few days after the surgery to minimize the swelling.
  • After showering, make sure your incision is dry and replace your abdominal compressor garment.
  • You surgeon will schedule an appointment with him within one week after the surgery for a follow-up revision and will recommend anything that he may deem necessary for a fast and healthy recovery.

The best time for a Mommy Makeover Surgery is when you are not planning to have any more children and your weight have been stable for a reasonable length of time. Any major weight change after surgery may negatively affect the expected good results.

Hernias are very common after multiple pregnancies. At Juventus Cosmetic Clinic these cases are handle by a general surgeon during the same surgery. This will benefit the patient by needing only one recovery period for both procedures.
