Breast Lift

Breast Lift Surgery

More extensive than breast augmentation surgery, a breast lift is not just based on receiving implants. Instead, breast lift surgery focuses on where the nipple is positioned and the texture and looseness of the tissue in the breasts. However, you do have the option to have breast life and augmentation surgery at the same time.

The very first step in this process is to talk with one of our surgeons. With specialized knowledge and education, our team of surgeons can provide you with the information needed to move forward. They will be able to discuss your thoughts, questions, concerns and goals. Throughout a few meetings and consultations, you and the surgeon will be able to make the best decision about breast lift surgery.

Breast lift surgery can reshape or tighten the breasts causing an improved or more youthful look. Common candidates for breast lift surgery include those that:

  • Have recently lost a lot of weight
  • Went through pregnancy and delivery
  • Have an excessive amount of loose skin causing breasts to sag

Q: Surgery Details

There are three different types of incisions that you can choose from for your breast life surgery. One incision offered is around the areola. Another option is to have an incision that goes down vertically from the areola to the crease of the breast. The third incision is horizontal along the crease of the breast from the areola. Together, you and your surgeon can go over each of these options and make the best choice.

When the incision has been chosen, the procedure can be scheduled. Here are a few elements to the breast life surgery:

  • Tissue of the breasts is reshaped and lifted
  • Nipple and areola are adjusted
  • Large areolas can be reduced in size for more appeal
  • Extra breast skin can be removed

Breast lift surgery typically takes between two and three hours. Surgery ends with the closing of the specific incision. The breast covers some incision lines while others will fade over time. While the type of incision is completely your decision, listening to your surgeon will provide you with the best results. With years of experience, our surgeons know what works with what type of body and which incision will produce the results you want.

Q: Surgery Without Implants

Breast lift surgery can be completed successfully without implants. Breast implants are used to impact the volume of the breast but not the tightness or position. Breast lift surgery without implants will elevate the breast as well as reposition the areola and nipple. It is also possible to have breast tissue and extra skin removed to eliminate sagging.

Q: Recovery

Having a successful recovery is so important to the surgery process. After surgery has been completed, bandages and dressing will be applied. The bandages will need to be worn consistently after to support healing and reduce swelling. Discomfort, bruising and swelling can be expected in the two to three weeks after the procedure.

We recommend that you allow for at least one full week dedicated to 24/7 recovery. This means taking at least one week off from work, especially if your job is labor intensive or excessively physical. In the months after breast lift surgery you should avoid lifting your arms up above the shoulders as well as any and all types of heavy lifting.

An important piece of recovery when it comes to the breast lift procedure is the massages. When your surgeon instructs you to, massaging the breasts can help them heal. This will likely happen after all your incisions have healed.
